Mosaic Tiles
(2022-)

he Mosaic Tiles series is a captivating exploration of a ubiquitous element in the Hong Kong landscape - the mosaic tiles. Originating in the 1950s and 1960s, these tiles were a popular decorative material used in over 80% of the city's buildings, according to a 1984 survey. Though often overlooked, the tile is a quintessential symbol of Hong Kong's bygone era. The artwork has masterfully captured the essence of this material by using acrylic paint to painstakingly recreate its intricate textures and patterns. The resulting artworks, featuring representations of the iconic Hong Kong piggy bank and the "Maneki-neko" (Lucky Cat), exude a vibrant yet understated charm, subtly conveying the character and energy of the city's past.
